After more than a decade of friendship and a lot of “we could do this Better” conversations, Shari and Taylor brought their first business idea to life in 2020.

Taylor’s passion for movement and deep love for Pilates paired seamlessly with Shari’s natural knack for business, brand-building, and strategy. Where one saw how bodies could move better, the other saw how an idea could grow, connect, and stand the test of time. Together, they built ESSE from the ground up - intentionally, thoughtfully, and with a very clear point of difference.

From the beginning, ESSE was never about doing Pilates the way it had always been done. It was about respecting the method while moving it forward.

Built on a strong philosophy and belief in a fresh, invigorating, and contemporary approach to Pilates, ESSE blends dynamic Reformer sessions with heated Mat Pilates. Long before heated movement became mainstream, ESSE was already exploring its benefits - using warmth to enhance mobility, strength, focus, and connection. In doing so, the studio helped shape what is now a widely embraced hot mat movement culture.

Over the last four years, more than 12,845 clients have walked through our doors - and we’ve proudly maintained a five-star reputation since the day we opened. But impact, to us, has never been measured by numbers alone. It’s measured by how people move, how they feel, and how confident they become in their bodies.

Along the way, ESSE naturally evolved into education.

What began as a simple stepping-stone toolkit - designed to help trainers complete their course and confidently step into the studio environment - quickly revealed something bigger. The intention was never to stop there. We could see the gaps in the industry: quick, surface-level certifications that promise a lot, deliver little, and leave instructors underprepared for the realities of teaching and career longevity.
